Shawn Bryan's Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day PledgePage
Welcome!
As you may or may not know, Breast Cancer is the most common form of cancer in women in the U.S., and during this year alone over 40,000 women are expected to die of the disease. A few years ago, during a routine self-exam, my mom found several lumps in her breasts. After having mammograms and biopsies, the lumps were found to be benign (not cancerous). Two years ago, one of my mom's younger sisters, my Aunt Pam, found several lumps in her breasts. Unfortunately, she wasn't as lucky as my mom - her lumps turned out to be cancerous. My aunt elected to have lumpectomies, followed up by radiation and chemotherapy. She has had a couple of relapses since her initial diagnosis, and although she is in remission now, that can change at any time. Breast cancer has touched my life. I doubt that there are many people that can say that they don't know a single person who has had breast cancer. This year, I am walking 60 miles, from Baltimore MD to Washington DC, to help raise awareness and money for early detection services that can save lives, and to support medical research, so we may find a cure for this deadly disease. The AVON Breast Cancer 3-day involves 500 volunteers and 3,000 walkers, men and women of all ages walking and working together in a revolution against breast cancer, and in solidarity to help save lives. The 3-Day is based on the simple idea that if everyone stopped trying so hard to get ahead, no one would get left behind. Together, we WILL cross the finish line. Thanks in advance for your support of my fundraising efforts, and my goal of reaching $3,000.00. Of course, I would like to far exceed this goal, so whatever you can contribute will be greatly appreciated! |
